Newtown spaces
I love my area. The inner west has such a mixed history - it's been working class, student housing, cutting-edge yuppie housing, and now it's an eclectic mix of all of the above and more. No-one looks at you strangely if you walk down the street with a mohawk the size of a small cat, or dressed entirely in pan lids and wooden spoons. Well, no-one local, anyway. The houses range from 1800's sandstone to sixties red-brick ugliness, to near-new architect designed abstract blocks with oddly arranged windows, and the people move in and around.
Every piece of space in Newtown has a multitude of use and meaning to the people moving through it, and the people shape the environment around them and are shaped by it in turn. Given my ongoing fascination with points of interaction, it's a wonderful place to live.
